Cycle thefts Leeman Road area

Dear Resident,

Overnight of Thursday 30th July there have been two reports of cycles being stolen. One was taken from the back yard of a property on Livingstone St. The cycle is described as a black Rockrider mountain bike with full suspension.

The other cycle is an electric bike which didn’t have the battery on it at the time it was stolen. This is described as a black Ex electric cycle. This was stolen from a rear garden on Salisbury Terrace.

Please can the following be considered when purchasing a new cycle :

1. Use two high‑quality locks

D‑lock + reinforced chain/cable is the recommended combination.

Look for Sold Secure Gold or Diamond rated locks.

2. Lock the frame and both wheels

Secure the frame to an immovable object.

If possible, remove the front wheel and lock it together with the frame and rear wheel.

3. Choose the right location

Park in well‑lit, busy, CCTV‑covered areas.

Avoid isolated cycle racks or locations that allow someone to work unseen.

4. Make the bike less attractive

Use a bike marking kit (often free via local policing teams).

Record the frame number.

Add a tamper-proof sticker when registered.
